Joining The Military As An Officer, College ROTC

Before you join the military, ask yourself if you are willing to give your life for your Soldiers (or Marines) and your country. If you can say yes to that question, then you are ready to join. Many do not consider that question, and then are surprised at the risks they are required to take in time of war. Although, the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq will change and eventually end, enemies of individual freedom continue to exist all over the world. These fanatics will continue to attack the United States and her democratic allies, until we change the dynamic of world-wide poverty and provide opportunity for all.
Now, if you decide you still want to join the military, and you want to be an officer, I recommend you join a reserve officer training program. You can join anytime during your college education. During one of your summers, you will be required to take a college version of basic training for either Army or Navy ROTC. This will give you the initial training and understanding of the responsibilities of wearing the uniform, as well as some of its rewards.
I am not a Marine officer, so I cannot tell you what it is like from a personal perspective. However, my friends that are Marine officers are very proud of their service, and expect high standards of behavior from themselves and their Marines.
If you choose to be a Marine, you will need to take Navy ROTC, and apply for entry into the Marine Corps. After you graduate and are commissioned as a Marine second lieutenant, you will take Marine basic infantry training. All Marines must take basic infantry training before they are qualified to take any other Marine specialty training. You will not be given your desired specialty until you prove yourself in your initial training.
You can also join the Marines out of college, but the path will be more difficult. You will have to go through enlisted basic infantry training. If you prove yourself worthy there you can earn the chance to go to Marine Officer Candidate School. Here you earn the right to become a Marine second lieutenant. You would already be at this point when you graduate, if you complete a 2 or more year ROTC program.
Unfortunately, you cannot not join the military for a few months. If you are commissioned, your commitment is usually at least 3 years duty. If you accept a scholarship, or a monetary entry bonus of some type, your commitment is usually 8 years, mixed between active duty time and reserve time. The nice thing about trying ROTC is that if you really dislike it, you can turn in your uniforms and stop attending. You would have no binding commitment, unless you accept a scholarship of some kind.
Please talk to the ROTC program at your college or at the university closest to you to get more questions answered. There should be an OTC program close to you, even if your college does not have one. You should be able to join as a member for a satellite campus.

Military Communication During Government Deployments

Your spouse has recently been deployed, Again. You are trying to juggle all of your responsibilities, stay sane and stay in touch while he or she is overseas. You are already stressed out over the fact that your loved one will be gone for such a long time and now you find out there is no cheap way to stay in touch. It looks like you will have to limit your phone calls, or does it?
While your soldier is overseas; whether it be Iraq, Kuwait, Korea, Germany or elsewhere family and friends need to know that calling him or her does not have to be an expensive or stressful ordeal, nor should it be. Over the years the U.S. Military has deployed to several locations overseas and many soldiers have enjoyed low rate Military International phone cards. It is important for you to know that there are companies out there that really do care about our armed forces and want to provide them with the lowest possible international phone card rates during their deployment.
Choosing the right soldier calling card should not be a hassle either. Unfortunately, phone services provided by the military could be considered by some as a monopoly. In many locations in which our soldiers deploy phone centers are set up in which a soldier must pay high rates to contact their loved ones. When there is little to no resources to choose from many soldiers resort to the expensive phone centers in order to speak with their friends and family at home.
There is always the PX right? The Post Exchange is an alternative to the phone centers but they to offer only calling cards provided by one or two companies. These companies may not have gotten picked up by the PX because of their quality it may have had something to do with the price they have to pay and the profit made.
If you do a little research, ask some questions and read more articles much like this one, you just might find a calling card company that will provide you with the service you expect as a service member or Dependant at a very low price. Once you find the military international calling card that provides you with the service you expect at a good price, be sure to let your friends know so that they can enjoy the no stress, no hassle communication with their loved ones as well.

Among The Building Blocks In Haiti Tetanus Shots And Prosthetics

In less than a week on the ground here, volunteer medical teams from the Jenkins-Penn Haitian Relief Organization have treated more than 4,000 patients and distributed more than 20,000 pounds of desperately needed supplies – from antibiotics and wound care kits to 4,000 water filters. Another 270 palettes of supplies are scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
Today alone our teams fanned out across refugee camps in and around the capital. One team of 11 established a makeshift clinic and saw 240 patients – including a woman whose foot was saved from amputation because we were able to arrange transport to a hospital. Others went from tent to tent, treating wounds and seeking out critical patients in need of more intensive care.
It was an incredibly successful day.
But for every person we help, there seems to be 100 others still in dire need. That captures the enormity of the crisis in Haiti, where tens of thousands of people crowd into unsanitary refugee camps and true recovery is years away. It will require not just the reconstruction homes and schools and hospitals, but things like tetanus shots and prosthetics to prevent Haiti from faltering.
As our teams offered aid, we encountered unspeakable desperation alongside unimaginable kindness. Volunteers in our group – a collaboration of my Sanela Diana Jenkins Foundation and actor Sean Penn – were taken aback by both.
Prior to coming to Haiti, volunteer nurse Sat Hari from Los Angeles said she watched television coverage of the disaster and felt certain it would be a dangerous assignment. “I was terrified, fearing for my life” she said. Instead, she’s been overwhelmed by Haitians’ kindness and graciousness in even the most difficult circumstances. “People are so loving and positive” she said.
Hari spent much of the past few days treating patients in refugee camps. Many had serious wounds that had either never been treated or were examined once with no follow-up care. “We’re cleaning them up and re-bandaging them,” Hari said. “We’re letting them know we’re here and that we’re helping.”
The camps, though, present significant health challenges of their own. There is little sanitation. Sewage and garbage fester in the open. The threat of disease grows by the day. Volunteer Dr. Dallas Bailes from Austin, Texas, said diseases like tetanus, rare in developed countries, will be a “major factor going forward because people are not vaccinated and they’ve got tons of wounds.”
It’s seemingly mundane things like tetanus shots that will help make the difference between Haiti recovering and languishing for a generation or more. Small groups like Jenkins-Penn were able to move swiftly in the first weeks after the quake. We work closely with other organizations and operate as a “relief provider to relief providers” by rapidly putting people and supplies where they are most needed. We dispatched teams and supplies for our base, a tent camp set up on a tennis court next to the Army’s 82nd Airborne. For days, our doctors essentially ran the emergency room at St. Damien’s hospital and troops from the 82nd helped us deliver aid to some of those in greatest need.
Our actions surely saved lives and eased suffering. But it will require governments and other aid organizations to demonstrate the same sort of rapid, situation-based decision-making over the next several years if Haiti is to recover. Today’s multinational conference in Montreal is a good start to coordinate Haiti’s long-term recovery efforts, but that focus must remain long after dramatic stories of rescue and tragedy fall off the front page.
That’s because what lies ahead is detailed, difficult and often does not fit neatly into the standardized buckets of international economic development. For example, Haiti now faces the prospect of a generation of amputees.
“Thousands of Haitians are having their limbs cut off,” said Dr. Bailes, noting that the primitive conditions often leave doctors no choice. Without prosthetics enabling these amputees to find productive work, they will be condemned to lives of poverty even if development restores some amount of opportunity to Haiti.
Development cannot come soon enough. Conditions are intolerable and Haitians continue to die needlessly. Just a few days ago, a one-year-old boy was brought into the hospital with burns over 72 percent of his body. He was burned by the open stove his family used for cooking in the tent that is now their home.
He died within 90 minutes of arriving – another heartbreak in a country that has known too much.

It is a sad situation for many of us in the U.S. today. Many have found their hours cut back at work or even learn that their job (and paycheck) is no longer there for them as they’ve been laid off. Jobs are becoming scarcer and the unemployment lines just keep getting longer. Now there is hope in the form of some government grant money that is aimed at helping those who need it most.
Families are the mainstay of this great country and now they need some assistance just to survive. With mounting bills and no end in sight, many are resorting to welfare or bankruptcy to see them through this dilemma. That costs the government a lot of money. Federally funded grant money is the better way to go for both the U.S. government and the U.S. citizen as well. Much of the grant money available today comes from donations provided by the wealthy. They give money toward these grants in exchange for nice tax breaks that are beneficial to them.
The average America citizen has, over time, accumulated lots of debt and much of it is in the form of credit card debt. They may also have second mortgages known as home improvement loans that, when added on to their already high mortgage payment every month, create a heavy burden they must find some way to pay each and every month. Getting more credit, especially credit cards, is easy but making those payments and rising interest rates, is proving extremely difficult for many.
With this government grant program, recently enabled by the present administration headed up by President Obama, many are finding relief from their debts by applying for federal grants aimed at debt relief for citizens. This money, amounting to billions of dollars, is there for the asking (filling out applications). Keep in mind this money need never be paid back for it is a grant, not a loan.

Measurement Is Key For Victory

Although fighting in war is not something that is that great of a thing and people would prefer that they just didn’t happen there are times where they are impossible to avoid. Without the use of proper measurement would it have even been possible for major wars such as WW1 and 2 to even have happened or perhaps even stopped?
Tactics/ Planning
Well the first thing we need measurement for are of course the tactics of battle. How many people are on the opposing sides force, do we have the firepower to defeat them and have they good any weaknesses? Walking into a battle blind is what you would be doing if the generals had not carefully used measurement to plan the first wave of attack. Although I do not agree with any of his methods Adolf Hitlers Blitzkrieg was one of the best strategies ever thought of. Basically Hitler used a combination of all of his forces, tanks, infantry, artillery, aircraft and deployed them all at rapid speed, this actually very quickly broke the enemy lines and meant they did not have to worry about flanking.
Weapons
Sometimes measurement is important when it comes to weapons and the most important one I can think of is the development of the nuclear bomb. All kinds of measurements were used and are still used today such as pressure measurement and level transmitters. On top of this many weapons since the cannon would not have been able to have been fired if it wasn’t for careful calculations and measurements.
The worryingly thing is that these measurements are getting easier to predict with the current weapons we have thanks to the computers we now use. On the plus side this means a bomb detonated by an ally will hit the target with no civilian casualties but from a terrorist there could be some real public losses.

Aside from the billions of dollars spent on military hardware like planes, submarines, aircraft carriers and state of the art missiles, militaries and armed forces of the United States of America has also relied on military psychology to further boost its war time efforts to finish of battles and gather intelligence. This form of war strategy is very effective and applied to captured prisoners of war but the sad thing is that military psychological techniques and strategies usually is accompanied by torture. It is a part of the three elements needed to break down a POW's conviction, Psychology, Torture and Interrogation. This has been very much in use in the Vietnam war. Where in captured communist rebels would be subjected to psychological strategies to find out the location of their bunkers and camps. Unfortunately, the rebels had the same idea. Captured American soldiers would tell horrid tales of torture and humiliation in the hands of their interrogators psychologically breaking them down bit by bit.
As weapons have been technologically developed, using laser targeting, satellite guidance and unmanned surveillance systems, military psychology has also developed their methods and strategies. As each country has made their armed forces stronger, so much more so for the United States Army. United States is on one of its biggest wars right now, the bar on Terrorism.?One of the defenses used by the American armed forces and security is military psychology. Advances in different forms have been developed and utilized to catch and prevent terrorism to happen again. The September 11 attack alone can be considered as a psychological strategy done by terrorists instilling fear and panic in the hearts of American people. These are propagandas used to weaken and divide the Americans and on a psychological plane, it has somewhat made its point. Not only did it kill thousands of Americans it has also made them think about their vulnerability. US securities have done their own homework. This includes profiling the enemy. Many psychological studies have been done on face recognition. Once perfected, this is a big help in surveillance and prevention of infiltration. This researches has drawn heavily from psychological knowledge of the military psychology track.

I am currently undergoing my BA in English at Sacramento State University, but I’m leaning toward a career in the justice dept. I have been looking around for a good place to do my post-grad work and get a law degree and I wondered about the possibility of working for the Navy’s JAG program.
Could you tell me some of the steps I would have to go through in order to work through the military and possibly some benefits to doing so (in your mind). Any help or advice you could give me would be very helpful.
To start, there are three ways that you could work for the military as an attorney. First, during your law school summers, the Navy (and what I say about Navy applies to all the services except the Marines, as they use Navy JAGs for the most part) runs a summer intern program that competes with the intern programs run by civilian law firms.
You can work for the Navy over the summer as an intern and get a competitive salary and great experience. Then, after law school, you can apply for a commission as a JAG officer and become a member of the Navy, or you can apply for a civilian attorney job with the Navy.
Search for more information about the Navy’s legal career program. As a JAG officer, I can tell you that it is a fascinating career. No, you will not be flying airplanes and saving the free world in 50 minutes like LtCdr Harm Rabb does on the TV show, but you will have a variety of legal assignments — criminal law, both prosecution and defense at courts-martial and civilian federal magistrate and district court; admin law, including contracts, administrative actions against sailors; legal assistance, including wills, powers of attorney, debtor-creditor, and landlord-tenant disputes; and claims, both for and against the US.
You will do this in a variety of locations, some exotic, and some boring. You may be on land or on a ship. You change duties every couple of years so you don’t get stale, and you become well-rounded. You also see promotions, 30 days paid leave per year, unlimited sick leave, annual pay raises, and good benefits — and poor housing on post. Overall, it is a great way to start out, and if you stay, it is a rewarding career. You will also be given the opportunity to get an L.L.M. degree, and you will be given extra money to help pay student loans for your schooling.
I hope that will help. I also will highly recommend getting good grades in college, keep up your GAP, take the LSAT and do well, and get into a good law school. Find one that offers activities beyond classroom – including mock trials and workshops. Take some criminal law electives, some administrative law, and some international law. Do that, and you will be well prepared for an exciting time in the services, be it three years or thirty.

What You Need To Do To Become A Navy Officer

Following is an interview with a recruit in the Navy: “The reserve recruiter told me that now more than ever, the navy reserve is like a weekend warrior for the working man. He said I would drill for 6 months locally on weekends, go to a 2 week boot camp, and then come back for more drilling and training on the weekends. He said the deployment possibility is low.”
“He said this would be my way of helping out how I can, while maintaining my normal family life and career. Is this for real or just blowing smoke at me? Also, I have a degree and was looking into reserve officer, but he said to join enlisted reserve first and work my way into it once I am in.”
“I can’t give you first hand experience but I too am real close to submitting my package for supply corps officer (DCO). From what I heard, having a master’s degree with a strong GPA (which I have) really helps if going officer. I’m also a 10 year veteran. (Now age 33) If no masters, the enlisted route may in fact be better. I think it also depends on what officer path you choose because the competition would be different. Perhaps someone else will answer that question with regards to bachelor vs. master’s degree and the Navy reserve officer program.”
“If you want to go officer you should be talking to an officer recruiter. Don’t sign anything until you do that and find out what the requirements are. It’s pretty good in my opinion. It’s very beneficial for my civilian job in terms of training I receive, which has resulted in promotions on the civilian side. Also, I can’t complain about a 2 week all expenses paid “vacation” to Europe every year. Is it like the recruiter said? 6 months of drilling on weekends, 2 weeks of basic training in the Great Lakes region, and more drilling when I get back with little chance of deployment? He offered Cryptology.”
“Think that the chances of deployment are going to vary based on what job you choose. The Seabees, Intel, and MAs can pretty much count on regular deployments. With regards to the basic training, make sure that you have it in writing that they are going to let you do the two week basic. From what I understand, the NRAC program is being phased out. You would hate to expect a two week boot and get stuck with a two month one instead!”
“I joined the reserves exactly one year ago. I had always had a desire to serve in the military, but things had never quite worked out. I have a very good paying job and decided to join for the experience and fulfillment. Even after one year, I can honestly say that I don’t think that you will regret if you do make the decision to join.”
“NRAC is over. The Navy might bring it back but not now. If you want to go officer at your age you really need to go that way from the beginning. It would be a lot easier on you. The officer pipeline is different than the enlisted. At least talk to an officer recruiter.”

What You Need To Do To Become A Navy Officer
Steps Towards Becoming an Army Officer

There are two kinds of officers in the US Army, Warrant Officers and Commissioned Officers. Each category has its own specialized training, areas of expertise, and responsibilities.
Warrant Officer:
Warrant Officers are highly specialized experts in their career fields, and function as trainers. They provide valuable guidance to both commanders and organizations. People who are accepted into the Warrant Officer Candidate School (WOCS) must attend the Basic Combat Training (BCT). After BCT, they have to attend WOCS. Warrant Officers also pilot the ultra advanced helicopters on combat, reconnaissance and rescue missions, for which they are trained with the Warrant Officer Flight Training (WOFT) program, starting directly after the WOCS.
To apply for the Warrant Officer Candidate School or Warrant Officer Flight Training program, one must have a high school diploma, be between 18 and 33 years of age and a citizen of the United States. They have to score 90 or higher on the revised Flight Aptitude Selection Test (FAST) and get at least 110 General Technical (GT) score on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). They must also meet the height and weight standards and pass a standard physical exam.
Commissioned Officers:
Commissioned Officers lead Soldiers during every aspect of a mission. They must make decisions quickly for successful completion of the mission. They bear the ultimate moral responsibility for their decisions. The four ways to become a Commissioned Officer in the US Army are the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), the Officer Candidate School, United States Military Academy at West Point, and Direct Commission Officer
You must enroll in Army ROTC at the same time you enroll in college. Army ROTC courses are available at more than 800 colleges and universities. Cadets take a curriculum of military courses and of elective leadership. The graduates automatically become Second Lieutenant.
Another way is the Officer Candidate School (OCS). After completing BCT, candidates train for a full 14 weeks and then must attend the Officer Basic Course. To apply for Officer Candidate School, you must be a U.S. citizen and a college graduate between 19 and 29 years old at the time of selection.
West Point is one of Americas top universities. Many past graduates of West Point are leaders in government and the military. An applicant to West Point must be between 17 and 23 years old, a U.S. citizen, single, not pregnant, and without legal obligation to support any children. They must have an above-average academic record. They can be congressionally nominated, or with a service-connected nomination, and must have high SAT scores.
Each of the professional branches, like Judge Advocate General (JAG), the Chaplain Corps, and the Medical Corps has an officers training program that trains educationally qualified civilian professionals, and provides direct commission into their field. The training time for these direct commission officers generally varies, depending on the career field.
Internal Recruitments:
The Army Green to Gold program offers enlisted soldiers in the Army the opportunity to get a commission as an Army Officer. This offers enlisted soldiers two ways to earn a baccalaureate degree. The Green to Gold Scholarship Option is for soldiers who want to leave active duty to attend college, and the Green to Gold Active Duty Option caters to Soldiers who wish to remain on active duty and also attend college.
